We are seeking a Crematoria Operative to enhance the quality and effectiveness of our Council’s Street Scene & Bereavement Services.
What will be expected from me?
To work as part of a team in the Council’s Bereavement Service with particular duties relating to the disposal of the dead by cremation and ensuring the crematoriabuildings and grounds are well run on a day to day basis, whilst working in a manner which maintains an atmosphere of reverence and respect.
What I might be doing?
* Receive the deceased and ensure that identification checks on all relevant documentation are carried out and all relevant documentation is complete prior to cremation.
* Undertake the cremation of the deceased and handle the cremated remains in strict adherence to the Code of Cremation Practice and all relevant guidance and regulations.
* Care for deceased in a respectful manner while performing all the tasks involved in the cremation process.
* Deal positively and sympathetically with service users providing assistance and support, dealing effectively and sympathetically with requests and complaints.
* Update and maintain accurate and timely documentation and electronic records as necessary including those required in relation to the cremation process and equipment maintenance.
* Ensure the requirements of the Environmental Permit are fulfilled in so far as the duties of the Crematorium Attendant as the operator of the cremators are required.
* Ensure all plant and equipment are operated and maintained in accordance with manufacturers instructions and guidelines.
* Ensure that at all times an atmosphere of reverence and respect is prevalent throughout the crematorium.
* Providing support and assistance for the bereaved, the public and religious groups and dealing effectively and sympathetically with requests and complaints.
* Undertake the strewing or burying of cremated remains maintaining a plan of strewn locations and updating all records so that the remains of relatives may be strewn in the same place.
* Participate in the promotion, sale, ordering, installation, inspection and maintenance of memorials.
* Responsible for the safe keeping and subsequent disposal of valuables from cremated remains.
* Participate in chapel duties including welfare of the congregation.
* Monitor the maintenance of the chapel, crematorium, its grounds and ancillary facilities to a high standard and ensure repairs are undertaken as required.
Essential requirements:
* Driving License Cat B
* ICCM Certificate
* Proficiency to cremate certificate
* IOSH managing safety or equivalent qualification
* Appropriate training / qualification in customer car
