We're looking for a Technical Design Authority to work closely with senior leaders, IT colleagues, and the organization to help shape strategic transformation by aligning business goals with changes in people, process, data, and technology. You'll develop and maintain high-level models and blueprints that support business strategy and serve as a Technical Design Authority throughout projects & programmes as well as Business As Usual tasks.
Main duties of the job
* Engage with stakeholders to understand business strategy and capability maturity.
* Define target business architectures and roadmaps aligned to strategic goals.
* Lead the development of integrated models across people, processes, and information domains.
* Guide delivery teams by socialising architecture artefacts and ensuring alignment through all phases.
* Participate in governance forums and provide architectural direction and decision support.
* Support business process redesign, transformation, and assurance activities.
* Help build internal architecture capability and support business development efforts.
* Identify and mitigate risks related to business architecture to keep programmes on track.

Person Specification
Education and Qualifications
* A master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field or equivalent experience
* Certifications such as TOGAF and relevant cybersecurity qualifications e.g., CISSP or equivalent experience
Experience
* Extensive experience in a technical design or architecture role, ideally within the public sector or healthcare environment.
* Experience of working with the NHS
* Experience of working with diverse stakeholders, including clinicians, leadership, and administrative staff.
* Experience of working in partnership with suppliers and partner organisations.
* Demonstrable experience designing and reviewing complex IT solutions, including cloud-based services, applications, and network infrastructure.
* Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles and NHS-specific standards and regulations.
* Strong familiarity with NHS standards, particularly regarding information governance and cybersecurity.
* Proven experience working with and instructing a multi-supplier environment (e.g., SIAM model) to deliver digital services.
* Experience of community services
* Experience working with colleagues in NHS Trusts, ICSs, and Local Authorities
Skills and knowledge
* Good knowledge of the NHS and community Trust work
* Expertise in designing IT systems and solutions, with a strong understanding of architecture frameworks such as TOGAF
* Strong understanding of cybersecurity principles, NHS security guidelines, and regulatory frameworks e.g., DSPT
* Understanding of NHS Information Governance, DSPT, GDPR, and data protection standards
* Up-to-date knowledge of digital and data capabilities and emerging technologies and how these can be applied within complex organizations
* Excellent IT skills including advanced keyboard skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe, and other common business software
* Good presentation and communication skills—ability to engage with all levels of staff and lead or contribute in meetings
* Proven ability to gather, document, and translate business requirements into technical deliverables
* Ability to balance technical excellence with budget constraints, ensuring cost-effective solutions without compromising quality or security
* Strong stakeholder management and leadership skills with experience managing relationships between technical teams, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
* Experience with NHS Shared Tenant architecture and related technologies is highly desirable.
* Skilled in facilitating design workshops and technical discussions, engaging diverse stakeholders to drive consensus and ensure alignment
