A Bath-based employer of choice is actively recruiting a Financial Accountant to join their high-performing finance team.
Your new role
The post holder will be a lead on indirect taxes (VAT), corporation, global mobility, and other taxes within the organisation. They will be responsible for providing comprehensive VAT and other tax advice and guidance within both the Finance Office and the wider organisation. The role includes liaising with external tax advisors as required and ensuring all tax aspects are managed on a timely and well-planned basis. You will also work closely with the Financial Accounts Team.
An outline of some duties includes:
* Liaising with the Payroll Team to provide support and guidance regarding PAYE and related matters.
* Managing system or administrative changes affecting VAT and other taxes, working with the Financial Accounts Team and the Process Change Team to enhance systems.
* Reporting on the taxation position of the organisation and its subsidiaries annually, highlighting potential risks and compliance issues.
* Reviewing the annual Corporation Tax return.
* Leading the global mobility function to advise and ensure compliance for employees working in overseas jurisdictions.
* Establishing tax treatment for overseas courses and ensuring compliance with sales tax regulations.
* Supporting other departments with liaising with Border Agencies to ensure correct duty payments and paperwork for goods imported into the UK.
* Leading VAT planning, reporting, and HMRC returns.
* Preparing, reviewing, and submitting group VAT returns within deadlines and HMRC rules.
What you'll need to succeed
The successful candidate will be a qualified accountant with experience in a complex organisation. You should have a solid understanding of HM Revenue & Customs rules, especially regarding VAT, and possess:
* Effective communication skills, capable of explaining complex financial information.
* Ability to develop good working relationships with colleagues, external advisors, and bodies.
* Strong IT and analytical skills.
* Ability to work independently without extensive support.
You will be the primary lead for indirect taxes, acting as a key point of contact for VAT and other tax advice within the Finance Office and wider organisation. You will work closely with the Financial Accounts team, external advisors, and line manage the Global Mobility Manager.
