An exceptional opportunity has arisen for a truly outstanding tutor to join a family as they embark on a continuous, three-year circumnavigation of the globe aboard a luxury residential ship. Bespoke Tuition already has two tutors successfully placed on board supporting other families—both living a truly remarkable experience. \"Once-in-a-lifetime\" can so often be a cliché; in this case, it is perfectly apt.
The Role
The family are seeking a highly capable, engaging tutor to take full responsibility for the education of their very bright, engaged and naturally curious 8-year-old son (Year 4, British curriculum).
The family would love to start with someone as soon as possible, although they are willing to wait for the right candidate so would wait several months if needs be. Having worked with two tutors over the past two years, they are now focused on finding someone who can offer long-term continuity, grow alongside the student, and become a trusted educational guide over time.
The Student
This is a delightful, enthusiastic and intellectually curious young boy with a genuine love of learning. He currently follows the Wolsey Hall Oxford curriculum, providing a strong academic foundation that can be enriched and expanded creatively.
His passions include:
* Birding
* Chess
* Music (currently learning piano)
* Golf and swimming
* Board games and strategic thinking
He thrives on stimulation, challenge, and variety—and will benefit from a tutor who can both stretch and inspire him.
Academic Scope
Core subjects include:
* English
* Mathematics
* Science
* History
* Geography
The family would particularly value a tutor who can also offer:
* A modern language (ideally Japanese, though Spanish or French are welcome alternatives)
* Piano instruction
This is a generalist role, requiring intellectual agility and confidence across disciplines.
A Worldschooling Approach
This role goes far beyond traditional tutoring.
With constant travel across continents, there is a unique opportunity to deliver immersive, place-based learning, such as:
* Travel journals and blogging projects
* Country studies and cultural deep-dives
* Field-based learning through excursions
* Creative and entrepreneurial projects
* Potential involvement in local volunteering initiatives
Learning should feel alive, relevant, and deeply connected to the world around him.
Long-Term Educational Vision
While there are currently no plans for mainstream schooling, the tutor will play a key role in preparing the student for future academic pathways, including:
* Exam readiness (GCSEs and beyond)
* Verbal and non-verbal reasoning
* Critical thinking and problem-solving
* Organisation and time management
* Public speaking, debate, and presentation skills
* Study techniques and independent learning habits
Life On Board
The successful candidate will enjoy an extraordinary lifestyle, including:
* A private en-suite studio apartment (330 sq ft) with balcony and kitchenette
* Access to exceptional onboard facilities including multiple restaurants, gym, pool, cinema, shops, golf simulator etc.
* All meals included, with both in-room and restaurant dining
* Twice-daily housekeeping
* Access to world-class enrichment lectures (Nobel laureates, renowned historians, National Geographic photographers, geopolitical experts)
* The opportunity to join the family on once-in-a-lifetime global experiences, including travel to some of the most remote and fascinating destinations on earth
For up to two months each year (in the UK and US), the tutor will be accommodated in high-quality, self-contained living quarters with full amenities. This is the period when a driving license will be required.
The Ideal Candidate
This role calls for someone truly exceptional.
While an Oxbridge background is preferred, the family ultimately seek a tutor who is:
* Highly intelligent and academically strong
* Experienced and adaptable
* Warm, engaging, and able to build a strong rapport
* Curious, independent-minded, and culturally aware
* Organised, energetic, and proactive
* Passionate about education beyond the classroom
A driving license is required. The family are also open to a partner or family member accompanying the tutor, if appropriate.
Schedule & Commitment
* Start date: ASAP (will wait for the right candidate)
* End date: Ongoing
* Total working time: Approx. 48 weeks per annum
* Hours: Up to 40 hours per week (Monday–Saturday), typically:
* 24–30 hours teaching, planning & educational activities
* ~10 hours babysitting (across 3–4 evenings)
The package
A competitive rate is available dependent on experience and qualifications. Usual benefits will also apply including full board, return flights, all travel/excursions for the assignment, visas and travel insurance.
In Summary
This is far more than a tutoring role—it is a rare opportunity to combine education, travel, and adventure at the very highest level.
It will suit a tutor who sees the world as a classroom, thrives on variety, and is ready to play a meaningful role in shaping a young learner’s academic and personal journey.
An exceptional role, for an exceptional candidate.
