Infrastructure Engineer

Role: Infrastructure Engineer (On-Prem & Hybrid)
Location: Newcastle
In this role you are the \"boots on the ground\" technical expert. You will design, rack, configure, and automate physical and virtual infrastructure within client-owned data centres. You bridge the gap between \"tin\" (hardware) and modern automation.
Core Technical Stack
* Virtualisation: Expert-level VMware vSphere/ESXi or Microsoft Hyper-V.
* Windows Server
* Storage (SAN/NAS): Managing and zoning NetApp, Dell EMC, or Pure Storage (iSCSI, Fibre Channel).
* Compute: Hands-on with HPE ProLiant, Dell PowerEdge, or Cisco UCS blade servers.
* Networking: L2/L3 switching, VLANs, and Firewalls (Cisco ASA/Firepower, Fortinet, or Palo Alto).
* Backups: Designing recovery tiers using Veeam, Commvault, or Cohesity.
* Automation: Using Ansible or PowerShell to manage \"Bare Metal\" and VM templates.
Key Deliverables
* Hardware Lifecycle: Leading \"Lift & Shift\" projects, server refreshes, and firmware patching across diverse hardware estates.
* Private Cloud Build: Deploying software-defined data centres (SDDC) using tools like VMware vSAN or NSX.
* Active Directory & Identity: Managing complex UK-based domains, Group Policy (GPO), and local DNS/DHCP.
* Disaster Recovery (DR): Building off-site replication and \"Cold/Warm\" site recovery procedures.

Senior Hands-on Infrastructure Experience
We are looking for an engineer who has moved beyond simple administration and can lead the end-to-end lifecycle of complex environments.
Academic Background
* Russell Group University (Preferred): You likely hold a 2:1 or 1st Class degree in Computer Science, Electronic Engineering, Mathematics, or a related STEM subject from a leading UK research institution.
