Trainee Building Inspector Positions across Wales
Join to apply for the Trainee Building Inspector roles at Pembrokeshire County Council as part of the LABC Academy. The LABC Academy Programme is a two-year programme that provides on‑the‑job learning while working toward level 4 and level 5 diplomas in building control surveying. On completion you will have the skills and qualifications to become a Registered Building Inspector and have a pathway to become a Chartered Surveyor or Building Engineer.
Salary £23,500 – £27,500 (England and Wales dependent on experience)
Contractual hours 37 per week
Organisation External Organisation / LABC (Local Authority Building Control)
Location Pembrokeshire County Council (SA61 1TP) with regular travel to sites within your local authority area. A full driving licence or active progress toward one is required by start date.
* Be employed by LABC and based in a local authority to gain practical experience.
* Two-year programme with on‑the‑job training and accredited learning toward Level 4 and Level 5 diplomas in building control surveying.
* Hybrid working: ~35 hours per week with a mix of home-based study and site training (two days home learning, three days on‑the‑job); additional days in local authority outside term time.
* Earn a competitive salary throughout the programme with salary increases on milestones.
* Receive a dedicated LABC coordinator and an experienced local authority mentor.
* Training and experience to become a Chartered Surveyor or Building Engineer on completion.
What you will do
* Deliver surveying activities related to building control, including inspections of building work and technical investigations.
* Work with designers and contractors to achieve compliance with building regulations and respond to dangerous structure calls.
* Contribute to assessments and on‑the‑job learning at a local authority building control department.
What you will need to join
* Minimum 3 A levels at grade C or higher (or equivalent – 80 UCAS points) or demonstrable related experience (e.g., construction, ex‑military, fire sector).
* A Level 3/SNVQ qualification in construction or a related discipline, or equivalent
* A technically minded, problem‑solving mindset seeking a long‑term career in construction.
