About the Role
Senior Ecologist – based at any UK office, advantages in the Midlands and regular site visits required. Independent lead on field work, data collection, analysis and interpretation. Assist with fee proposals, ecological desk studies, baseline habitat mapping, species surveys, statutory biodiversity metric calculations and Biodiversity Net Gain design. Design and complete baseline ecological assessments and support ecological clerk of works roles.
Responsibilities
* Organise and lead field surveys and monitor survey progress.
* Analyse and review ecological data for accuracy and quality.
* Produce ecological reports, specific assessments and management plans.
* Support ecological clerk of works roles.
* Identify and develop strategies for ecological constraints and opportunities on projects.
* Prepare work and fee proposals and contribute to project bidding.
* Liaise with clients, contractors and stakeholders on technical strategy and advice.
* Understand health and safety issues relevant to surveying and report hazards onsite and support risk‑avoiding measures.
Qualifications
* Degree in Ecology, Biology, Environmental Science or related field.
* Experience appraising projects for ecological constraints and opportunities.
* Experience surveying UK habitats, ideally FISC 4 botanical skills (or able to achieve within 12 months).
* Experience survey design and mitigation for protected species and coordination of sub‑consultants.
* Membership of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management at appropriate level (or equivalent).
* Experience using the Statutory Biodiversity Metric to evidence Biodiversity Net Gain.
* Understanding of relevant legislation, case law and planning policy for ecology.
* Knowledge of guidance and standards for species.
* Experience of mitigation licence processes for protected species.
* Organisational and communication skills for clients and project teams.
* Proficiency in MS Office.
* Experience of working with GIS software.
* Enjoy working outdoors, willingness to complete field surveys and work antisocial hours.
* Valid driving licence required.
