About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and empathetic SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils with a range of special educational needs, including ASD, SEMH, speech and language needs, and learning difficulties. The ideal candidate will help create a safe, inclusive environment where pupils can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
Key Responsibilities
Pupil Support
* Provide 1:1 and small-group support tailored to individual needs.
* Assist pupils in accessing the curriculum through differentiation and scaffolding.
* Support communication, sensory needs, emotional regulation, and social interaction.
* Help implement and review EHCP targets and behaviour/support plans.
Classroom Support
* Work under the direction of the class teacher and SENCo.
* Prepare learning materials and resources adapted to pupils’ needs.
* Promote positive behaviour, using de-escalation and consistent routines.
* Supervise pupils during transitions, breaktimes, and offsite activities when needed.
Record Keeping & Collaboration
* Record observations, progress notes, and incident details as required.
* Communicate regularly with teaching staff, parents, and external professionals.
* Attend training, meetings, and CPD relevant to SEN.
Safeguarding
* Uphold safeguarding and child protection policies at all times.
* Respond appropriately to concerns or disclosures.
Person Specification
Essential
* Experience supporting pupils with SEND (school, care, or youth setting).
* Calm, patient, nurturing approach.
* Understanding of additional needs such as ASD, ADHD, SEMH, SLCN, and global delay.
* Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Desirable
* Experience with PECs, Makaton, sensory strategies, or behaviour support.
* Training in de-escalation (Team Teach / PRICE / MAPA).
* Experience in specialist settings, alternative provisions, or EHCP-led roles.
