Role: Claims Fraud Investigator (Hybrid)
Location: Bournemouth, Leeds or Ipswich (on-site one day per month). The office in Ipswich will move to Chelmsford in 2026, so Chelmsford should be within reasonable commuting distance for applicants.
Overview
In this role, you’ll prevent, investigate, and detect insurance claims fraud by managing case portfolios, providing business referral support, and collaborating with external organizations like the Insurance Fraud Bureau and law enforcement agencies. You’ll also make key decisions on retaining referrals for the Claims Crime Prevention Teams, ensuring genuine claims are returned promptly with clear feedback.
Responsibilities
* Compile intelligence searches and conduct investigations to assess claim authenticity and identify potential fraud.
* Engage with departments, liaise with law enforcement, and collaborate with industry bodies for technical support and referrals.
* Manage personal development, apply investigative techniques, and ensure effective fraud detection while minimising customer impact.
* Record and highlight concerns regarding fraudulent claims, maintain case management systems, and ensure compliance with standards.
* Identify and report linked fraud cases, trends, and claims farming (KYO) to senior levels.
* Ensure compliance with internal, regulatory, and statutory standards and controls.
* Negotiate settlements with policyholders and third parties, and manage litigation cases effectively.
* Handle complaints and maintain communication through the complaint process, ensuring the database is updated.
* Contribute to continuous improvement through self-development, 1-2-1s, and team discussions.
Essential Skills
* Understanding of motor claims liability, indemnity, and insurance case law related to fraud.
* Proactive customer approach aligned with Treating Customers Fairly (TCF) and strong communication skills.
* Knowledge of claims and underwriting processes, with awareness of personal injury claims and the MOJ/OIC process.
* Experience negotiating with solicitors and understanding basic investigation principles.
* Awareness of the Data Protection Act, Section 29 requests, and insurance-related regulations (e.g., money laundering and POCA).
* Basic knowledge of credit hire principles, fee structure, and insurance fundamentals.

Salary Information
Pay: Circa £29,300 per year. Pay is based on relevant experience, skills for the role, and location. Salary is only one part of our total reward package.
