Essex County Council (ECC) are delighted to be supporting Maldon District Council to recruit a temporary Environmental Health Manager (Protection) for an initial 3-month temporary contract.
Please note that this role provides remote and flexible working as well as working within the Council Offices, subject to business need.

The Opportunity:
Maldon District Council is seeking to employ a qualified and experienced Environmental Health Manager (Protection) to work within our busy, multi-skilled service for an initial 3-month period. The post holder will be expected to provide clear direction and effective leadership, setting service priorities, monitoring work allocation and improving overall performance. They must provide technical advice and decision making in all aspects of the role, including taking formal action where applicable.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Provide effective leadership for a team of Environmental Health Officers, Technical Officers and Administration Officers, overseeing service priorities, work allocation and performance reporting
2. Provide day-to-day operational management of direct reports, following HR policies and processes
3. Deliver customer-focused specialist advice and services, ensuring the provision of professional services that meet customers’ needs
4. Act as the single point of contact for environmental protection relation queries and complaints
5. Support, guide and advise the multi-skilled environmental protection team on complex cases related to the specialism
6. Work collaboratively with colleagues across the organisation and support effective working relationships with elected members, partners and other stakeholders
7. Have a deeper understanding of Environmental Health Services, enabling resolution of a broader range of more complex cases, applications and inspections and providing resilience and flexibility within the team
8. Ensure effective 2-way communication and feedback is promoted across all teams and important management updates are shared where appropriate
9. Encourage praise, peer to peer feedback and recognition of achievements within the teams
The Experience you will bring:
We are looking for someone who is ideally registered with the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health with significant experience in Environmental Health and 2+ years line management.
