Job Description
Job Title: Chemical Process Engineer
Type: Full-Time / Hybrid
Location: Derby, Raynesway
We are looking for capable, experienced, and proactive individuals to join our growing team and be responsible for leading chemical process engineering packages. These are high-impact roles, ideal for experienced engineers who thrive on technical complexity, process rigour, and innovation with purpose.
This is an opportunity to use your deep experience in chemical engineering to play a part in the regeneration of the Raynesway Nuclear Licensed Site. This major infrastructure programme involves replacing current facilities with modern, state-of-the-art manufacturing capability.
You will work across multiple projects and lifecycle stages to ensure that your areas meet engineering and project requirements. You will interact with various stakeholders both internal and external, supported by a community of around 3,000 engineers in the Submarines business, with training and development opportunities.
The role is based in Derby with opportunities for hybrid working. While experience with nuclear facilities is advantageous, we invite applications from those interested in redeploying their capabilities in a new area. The key is having the right approach: working with and influencing engineers from other disciplines to integrate chemical engineering into the overall engineering solution.
Key Responsibilities
1. Act as 'Intelligent Customer' for chemical engineering aspects of design and construction, including process design, mass & energy balances, hazard studies, sizing, pressure, and flow calculations.
2. Ensure principles of inherent safety, hierarchy of controls, and simplification are embedded into the design.
3. Lead development of requirements and design options for chemical engineering packages.
4. Provide assurance that requirements are incorporated into design and construction.
5. Review and accept chemical engineering documentation and drawings from external supply chain.
6. Contribute to engineering processes, plans, strategies, and safety/environmental documentation.
7. Implement engineering controls on chemical process work internally and externally.
8. Ensure chemical systems are adequately commissioned and decommissioned.
9. Support the Engineering Manager in ensuring SQEP personnel perform their roles.
10. Provide technical authority, mentorship, and review input for junior engineers and cross-functional teams.
Candidate Profile
At Rolls-Royce, we prioritize safety, integrity, simplicity, and making a difference. We seek candidates with a Chemical/Process Engineering degree or similar, or equivalent experience.
Experience in design, construction, and operation of nuclear/conventional facilities within the UK is preferred, including familiarity with Nuclear Site Licensing Conditions, SAPs, and TAGs. Experience with high hazard sites like COMAH, process safety tools, modern control principles, and nuclear safety case production is advantageous.
The candidate should be a Chartered Engineer or working towards Chartered/Incorporated status with relevant professional body membership.
Why Join Rolls-Royce?
We are a historic leader in innovation, designing systems that provide critical power with safety and reliability. We foster an inclusive, innovative culture with opportunities for growth, development, and making a meaningful impact.
Benefits
Competitive salary, bonus, employee support, discounts, and flexible hybrid working arrangements. We are committed to diversity and inclusion, believing that diverse perspectives drive success. Security clearance is required for this role, and Rolls-Royce will support your application if needed.
Application deadline: 27 July 2025.
