Main surgery in Dorking and two dispensing branches in Box Hill and Westcott serving a total of 11,300 patients.
Open Monday to Friday, with no weekend working.
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented dispenser to join our practice-based team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe and effective supply of medications to patients. This position requires a strong commitment to patient care, as well as the ability to work efficiently and accurately in a fast-paced environment.
The role is based in a busy general practice dispensary and may involve standing for extended periods. Flexibility to cover shifts during staff absences and working at more than one local site may be required.
Main duties of the job
1. Dispense prescription medication and other medical products under the direction of the GP Partners, using dispensing software.
2. Count pills, label bottles, and box medications to prepare prescriptions in accordance with SOPs.
3. Dispense controlled drugs and private scripts safely, following SOPs.
4. Supply patients with information and education on their prescribed medication.
5. Monitor the prescription-filling process to ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and practice-specific policies.
6. Answer patient questions regarding medication under supervision and guidance of the GP.
7. Check stock dates and dispose of returned medication in line with regulations and policies.
8. Place orders for medications and ensure stock availability to meet patient demand.
9. Maintain and update electronic patient records accurately and confidentially.
10. Perform administrative duties such as answering phone calls, receiving and inputting prescription requests and queries.
11. Procure and manage stock, ensuring timely ordering and accurate inventory records.
12. Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organized dispensary environment.
13. Gather, organize, and assess patient information as part of the dispensing and clinical processes.
14. Support audits, inspections, and quality improvement initiatives.
15. Keep up to date with mandatory training and additional learning.
16. Coach and support other team members as needed.

You will act as a point of contact for patients, managing communication and liaising with multidisciplinary team members and external agencies such as secondary care and community services.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services / Dispensing (or equivalent)
* Previous experience in a dispensing or pharmacy role
* Strong organizational and time management skills
* Accuracy and attention to detail
* Ability to work well in a team and independently
* Commitment to patient confidentiality and safeguarding
* Valid driving license and access to a vehicle
* Availability to work from 8 am to 6 pm
* Experience in a general practice or primary care setting
* Familiarity with SystemOne
* Understanding of NHS prescribing protocols
