Senior Commissioning Engineer
Hampton, Middlesex
This role plays a vital part in delivering Thames Water AMP/ projects. As a Senior Commissioning Engineer, you’ll lead the commissioning phase across the project lifecycle ensuring safe, efficient MEICA delivery from design through to takeover. Working closely with Project Managers, you’ll develop commissioning strategies, oversee technical compliance, coordinate supply chain activities, and drive high standards of safety, quality, and performance.
You’ll contribute to design development, champion continuous improvement, and support successful project handover. This is a senior position suited to someone experienced in water‑industry MEICA commissioning who enjoys problem‑solving, collaboration, and leading teams.
What you'll be doing:
Project & Technical Leadership
1. Lead MEICA commissioning activities across the full project lifecycle.
2. Provide technical oversight to ensure compliance with design, regulatory, and Thames Water Asset Standards.
3. Develop commissioning plans, strategies, and documentation; monitor progress and reporting throughout delivery.
4. Coordinate design input from the supply chain and ensure integration into project plans.
5. Support project handover through effective management of snagging, defects, and performance testing.
Safety, Quality & Compliance
6. Implement and maintain MEICA safe systems of work, identifying new risks where needed.
7. Undertake regular safety inspections and promote safe behaviours.
8. Ensure delivery meets quality standards, engaging with the Quality Team and contributing to quality plans.
9. Ensure Electrical & Mechanical safety rules are consistently applied.
Stakeholder & Supply Chain Coordination
10. Act as a technical interface with clients, designers, specialist support functions and subcontractors.
11. Support procurement of MEICA installation teams and subcontract packages.
12. Ensure commissioning and installation programmes are aligned with the main contract programme.
13. Coordinate specialist training requirements with suppliers/subcontractors.
Resource, Reporting & Continuous Improvement
14. Identify MEICA/commissioning resource needs and manage allocated teams.
15. Provide regular updates on technical performance, risks, and forecasting.
16. Capture and share best practice, encouraging continuous improvement.
About you:
The successful candidate should have:
17. Significant experience in the water industry.
18. Strong MEICA and commissioning leadership experience.
19. Proven technical capability in water‑industry mechanical, electrical, and process equipment.
20. Ability to manage commissioning through design, procurement, installation and handover phases.
21. Experience coordinating subcontractors and supply chain partners.
22. Strong understanding of health, safety and environmental management.
23. Excellent planning skills with the ability to work to tight timelines.
24. Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
25. CSCS or ECS card.
26. EUSR National Water Hygiene Card.
27. SSSTS (minimum) or SMSTS (preferred).
28. BS (th Edition).
Ideally, the successful candidate would have:
29. Experience undertaking the role of LV Electrical Authorised Person.
30. First Aid at Work qualification.
31. COMPEX.
32. PROFIBUS commissioning/maintenance experience.
