Sustainability Consultant - Luton - Up to £60K About the Company Our client is a leading Civils Contractor business delivering high-quality projects across commercial, sports stadia and infrastructure sectors, with increasing regulatory requirements and client demand for low-carbon, environmentally responsible developments, sustainability sits at the heart of our growth strategy. Role Purpose As a Sustainability Consultant you will lead and support the delivery of environmental and sustainability strategies across pre-construction and live projects. The role will ensure compliance with UK environmental legislation, support net-zero ambitions, and enhance environmental performance in line with industry best practice. Key Responsibilities 1. Strategy & Compliance * Support implementation of the company’s sustainability strategy and net-zero roadmap. * Ensure compliance with UK environmental legislation. * Advise project teams on alignment with BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) and other sustainability frameworks. * Monitor and report on carbon, waste, water, and biodiversity metrics. 2. Pre-Construction Support * Contribute to tender submissions with sustainability statements and carbon reduction plans. * Provide embodied carbon assessments. * Advise on sustainable material selection and modern methods of construction (MMC). 3. Project Delivery * Work closely with Design Managers, Commercial teams, and Site Managers to embed sustainable solutions throughout project lifecycles. * Manage BREEAM / LEED assessments where applicable. * Oversee site environmental management plans (SEMPs). * Support ISO 14001 environmental management system compliance. 4. Carbon & Net Zero * Lead whole-life carbon assessments. * Identify opportunities for energy efficiency, renewable technologies, and circular economy solutions. 5. Stakeholder Engagement * Engage with clients, consultants, supply chain partners, and local authorities. * Deliver sustainability training and awareness sessions for internal teams. * Support ESG reporting and external communications. Person Specification Essential * 3 years’ experience in sustainability within the UK construction or built environment sector. * Strong knowledge of UK planning, environmental legislation, and sustainability certifications (e.g., BREEAM). * Experience conducting whole-life carbon assessments. * Strong analytical and reporting skills. * Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
