About The Role
Balfour Beatty (Urban Fox) has an exciting opportunity for a Design Manager to join our growing team.
As a Design Manager, leading the development, governance, and approval of Urban Fox's EV charging infrastructure design standards. This role is critical to ensuring that all project designs meet current and emerging regulatory requirements, local authority standards, and Urban Fox's internal specifications
What You'll Be Doing
Design Standards & Governance
* Develop, maintain, and continuously improve Urban Fox's EVCP design standards and technical specifications.
* Ensure all designs comply with current regulations (e.g. BS7671, CDM 2015, PAS 128, Inclusive Mobility) and anticipate future changes.
* Collaborate with internal stakeholders to embed design standards into project delivery and supplier frameworks.
Design Review & Approval
* Review and approve all Framework contractor design submissions against Urban Fox standards and the given project framework.
* Provide clear feedback and reject non-compliant designs with documented rationale and guidance for resubmission.
* Maintain a design approval tracker and ensure version control across all submissions for both internal design library and externally submitted designs.
Stakeholder Coordination
* Liaise with local authorities, DNOs, ICPs, and suppliers to ensure design compatibility with site-specific constraints and utility requirements.
* Support bid and tender processes with design input and feasibility assessments.
* Act as the technical point of contact for design-related queries across the business.
Innovation & Compliance
* Monitor industry trends, regulatory updates, and emerging technologies to inform design evolution.
* Ensure designs support Urban Fox's commitment to accessibility, sustainability, and low-impact deployment.
* Lead internal design audits and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
* Collaborate with Product Hardware teams to review/integrate the 3rd party Hardware into Urban Fox installation
Who We're Looking For
* Engineering qualification (e.g. HNC/HND, BEng, or equivalent).
* Membership of a professional body (e.g. IET, ICE).
* Proven experience in infrastructure or utility design, ideally within EV charging, highways, or local authority projects.
* Strong understanding of UK design regulations and standards (e.g. BS7671, CDM, Inclusive Mobility, PAS 128).
* Experience reviewing and approving technical drawings, layout plans, and electrical designs.
* Ability to manage multiple design submissions and maintain high standards of quality and compliance.
* Proficient in AutoCAD, GIS tools, and design documentation platforms
* Experience working with local authorities or public sector clients.
* Experience working on NRSWA projects.
* Knowledge of EVCP hardware and installation methods (bollard, lamppost, flush- mounted).
