Job Duties

Maintain Institute standards of cleanliness in assigned areas to include but not limited to residence halls, apartments, academic buildings, classrooms, athletic/recreational facilities, offices, and service areas.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Clean doors, glass in entrances, vacuum, sweep, mop and dust assigned areas, including corridors, stairwells, offices, lounges, kitchens, entrances, and properly remove trash and recycling to support the Institute’s sustainability initiatives.
• 2. Clean and disinfect bathrooms, maintaining proper level of supplies (toilet paper, paper towels, soap, etc.). Clean and disinfect showers if applicable. Clean laundry rooms & laundry equipment; locker rooms, classrooms including chalkboards, whiteboards, desks chairs and lecterns. Clean laboratories according to the Laboratory Protocol.
• 3. Complete detail and project cleaning for assigned areas while keeping Supervisors informed of project status. During the summer session, clean student rooms and restrooms to prepare for summer conferences, summer classes and the fall semester.
• 4. Maintain janitor closets/storage areas in a clean organized manner. Order supplies as needed to maintain an adequate inventory. Ensure cleaning equipment is kept in good working condition; wipe down cleaning equipment after each use. Report malfunctioning equipment to the supervisor immediately. Perform weekly equipment inventory and promptly report discrepancies to supervisor.
• 5. Work with building coordinator or designee to ensure building spaces are arranged according to building schedules and special events. Set up tables and chairs for meetings/events and assist with moving furniture as requested. Complete service request forms or call supervisor directly to report emergency maintenance issues. Report instances of vandalism or theft of Institute property. Clean light lenses/diffusers as needed.
• 6. If applicable shovel snow and apply ice melt in assigned areas entryway and assist with additional areas as directed to maintain a safe campus environment. Monitor the snow and ice control process to ensure safe pedestrian travel across campus and inform Supervisor of campus readiness. Be available to work before, after work hours, and during emergencies.
• 7. Comply with standing instructions provided by operating sheets, safety rules, and regulations for personal protection. Wear appropriate PPE for the task at hand. Clean bodily fluids or other hazardous materials following proper safety procedures.
• 8. Cover for absent co-workers and perform other duties as assigned.
