DESIGN MANAGER
Location: Aldershot/Tidworth/Larkhill
Key Purpose of the Role:
- Reporting to the Design Lead, you will lead and manage design teams through various stages of development, from feasibility to detailed design, across a wide variety of schemes within the Aspire footprint. You will balance technical input and guidance, programme requirements, project commercial objectives, and stakeholder relationships.
- Assist in evaluating and setting the status of key sub-contract drawings.
- Coordinate the development of package designs in line with lessons learned and manage the design approval process for sub-contractors.
Key Responsibilities:
* Ensure all work by the design team complies with the Aspire Management System.
* Guide the Design Team to ensure the design meets client and Aspire’s desired outcomes.
* Manage the production of comprehensive documentation from Scheme Design Report (SDR) to construction issue.
* Interface with client representatives and other stakeholders.
* Check that designs, including trade contractor designs and shop drawings, conform to relevant standards, building regulations, specifications, and contracts.
* Undertake design risk assessments in accordance with CDM regulations.
* Maintain design programmes, including a Schedule of Design Deliverables, and monitor progress with regular reports.
* Chair kick-off meetings, progress meetings, and design coordination meetings regularly.
* Coordinate the design team and participate in site visits during the design phase.
* Coordinate with Facilities Management and Lifecycle teams to ensure designs are maintainable.
* Chair Inter Discipline Coordination (IDC) meetings.
* Arrange, chair, and record minutes for design to procurement handover meetings.
* Check compatibility of designed tolerances.
* Interface with site-based design coordinators to resolve site team queries.
* Support procurement in reviewing tenders related to design development and management.
* Maintain communication and good relationships across disciplines, supporting Aspire Defence’s purpose, vision, and values.
* Support the Construction Team by facilitating input from designers via RFIs, technical submittals, etc.
Qualifications Essential:
* Degree/HND/HNC in Building, Engineering, or Architecture.
* Professional qualification in Architecture, Engineering, Construction, or Project Management.
Experience & Knowledge: Essential:
* Design management experience on large projects.
* Experience working in a BIM environment.
* Exposure to PFI/PPP and two-stage tendering processes.
Desirable:
* Knowledge of architectural, structural, building services, and civil works through practical experience.
Skills:
* Ability to influence and guide others.
* Excellent organizational skills.
