Westinghouse at the Springfields location is key to the UK nuclear fuel manufacturing. It is supported by a broad capability in waste and residue treatment. As a recognised national asset, the company continues to invest in the future of both fuel production and waste management.
As a Nuclear Waste Monitor you will play a critical role in implementing and supporting radiation protection programmes across the Springfields site. This position ensures full compliance with regulatory standards and internal safety procedures, helping to safeguard employees, the public, and the environment from exposure to ionizing radiation. You will report to the Residues Services Manager and be located at Springfields site.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct routine contamination and radiation surveys of personnel, equipment, and facilities.
* Provide radiological coverage for routine and non-routine jobs in radiologically designated areas.
* Ensure compliance with ALARP principles.
* Assist in implementing radiation protection procedures and controls.
* Perform daily operational checks on radiation monitoring instruments and report any faults for timely maintenance or calibration.
* Support decontamination and radioactive waste handling activities.
* Document survey results and maintain accurate radiological records.
* Work in collaboration with the Supervisor, providing on-the-job support and guidance to colleagues regarding radiological safety practices.
Qualifications
* GCSE Grade C / 5 or equivalent in Mathematics.
* Minimum of 2 years working in Nuclear Industry.
* NVQ Level 2 in Radiation Protection or equivalent qualifications in a science/engineering-related field.
* Minimum of 2 years' experience working as a Waste Surveyor/Monitor.
* Basic knowledge & understanding of instrumentation for nuclear operations including waste disposal & recycling.
* Experience carrying out functional tests of radiation protection monitoring instrumentation using calibrated radioactive sealed sources.
* Attention to detail and commitment to safety.
* Strong written and verbal communication.
* Ability to adhere to a working pattern.
* Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team and to work independently.
* Ability to interpret and analyse data effectively.
* Ability to persevere during challenges and setbacks.
