We are one of the longest established family-run funeral director businesses in Ayrshire, with branches located in Kilmarnock, Stewarton, Galston and Darvel. You will be based at our care facility in Kilmarnock. The role is varied and every day will be different, so flexibility with working hours and availability for our on-call rota is essential. Our Funeral Service Operative has an important role in our operations, providing support and assistance to ensure each funeral is carried out to our high standards.
Experience is preferred but not essential, as full training will be provided. You will need a caring and empathetic nature, excellent organisational skills, a high level of physical fitness and a full UK driving licence. For insurance purposes, you must be over 25. This is an emotionally and physically demanding role and you must have a commitment to assisting people at the most difficult of times.
Responsibilities:
* Maintaining the cleanliness of vehicles, equipment and facilities
* Taking part in our on-call rota for evenings and weekends
* Participating in funeral services at crematoriums and cemeteries by assisting the funeral director, bearing the coffin and driving company vehicles
* Preparation of coffins in our workshop and assisting with dressing and coffining the deceased
* Assisting with bringing the deceased into our care from houses, nursing homes, hospitals and hospices
* Completion of mortuary paperwork and adhering to strict procedures with the care of the deceased
* General duties associated with the daily operation of the business
This role would suitable for people who

* Are able to communicate in a clear and considerate way
* Are well presented, reliable, self-motivated, courteous and of good character
* Have the ability to work in a team and also spend time lone working
* Are physically able to lift and carry heavy weights in accordance with manual handling procedures
Other Information:
* Able to reliably commute within 20 minutes maximum of Thomas McKellar and Sons Kilmarnock office
* Computer and general office skills are essential
* 25 days holiday plus bank holidays according to company policy

* Work location primarily in Kilmarnock and surrounding areas of East Ayrshire
