The role
As an Electrical Control and Instrumentation Technician, you’ll carry out detailed testing, fault‑finding and repair of analogue electronic systems that support critical defence and nuclear operations. Your work will ensure that equipment is tested, verified and documented to exacting standards before it is relied upon in operational environments.
Day-to-day, you’ll apply your testing expertise using specialist equipment, collaborate with engineering colleagues to identify root causes, and produce clear technical records that demonstrate compliance. In return, you’ll build specialist diagnostic capability, gain experience in a highly regulated environment, and develop a long‑term career within nuclear and defence engineering.
1. Testing analogue printed circuit boards and electrical equipment to approved test documentation
2. Investigating faults and repairing analogue electronics using bench meters, oscilloscopes and test equipment
3. Verifying test results through peer checks and evidence‑based reporting
4. Recording step‑by‑step fault investigations and corrective actions
5. Producing detailed technical and fault reports, including root cause identification
This role is full time, 37 hours per week and is based on site at Whetstone, Leicester.
Essential experience of the Electrical Control and Instrumentation Technician - Test Bias
6. Demonstrable experience testing and fault‑finding electrical or electronic systems
7. Practical experience working with analogue printed circuit boards and discrete components
8. Confidence using electronic test equipment such as oscilloscopes and bench meters
9. Ability to follow approved test procedures and accurately document results
10. Experience working in a quality‑focused technical or engineering environment
Qualifications for the Electrical Control and Instrumentation Technician - Test Bias
11. Apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, or equivalent
12. HNC level study in relevant electrical or electronic modules is desirable
13. Additional testing or diagnostic qualifications would be advantageous
