Overview

Practitioner Psychologist (B7-B8a Development Role). This post sits within the Children and Young People’s Learning Disability Service within Mindworks at Surrey and Borders. The Children’s LD Service is a Surrey County wide service with four bases: Redhill, Leatherhead, Chertsey and Godalming. The post is advertised as a development post, however if you have the relevant knowledge and experience for a Band 8a you are also able to apply.

The service is a welcoming and supportive team, comprising Nurses, Psychology, Music Therapy and Psychiatry, along with Admin colleagues. There are monthly Business Meetings, twice-monthly clinical issues meetings, and a quarterly LD Forum.

The post holder will hold a caseload of young people and provide appropriate interventions and support, working with families/carers and the wider MDT to ensure a consistent approach. They will provide regular supervision to the AP based in the geographical area and will be supported by the Clinical Psychologist in their development, with regular supervision and appraisal and an identified development plan. The post holder will contribute to the service ASD Pathway and other relevant pathways.

The role includes supervision, clinical governance, and involvement in service development as described below.


Main duties of the job

* Be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of clinical work and care.
* Maintain high standards of care in all areas of practice in accordance with the HCPC Code of Conduct, professional guidelines and Trust Policies and Procedures.
* Act within the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act (2005).
* Be aware of and implement Safeguarding Adult and Child Protection Policies, Procedures and legislation.
* Carry out comprehensive psychological and cognitive assessments and formulation, plan, implement and evaluate delivery of psychology interventions and consultations to support people with specific needs.
* Actively involve people in developing and agreeing their own care plan, advocate for dignity, choice, self-esteem, and cultural and religious needs and preferences.


Qualifications and experience

Essential
* Doctorate in clinical or counselling psychology or other HCPC registered Practitioner Psychologist qualification (as required by advert) or equivalent.
* Experience of working with people across the lifespan with a range of mental health issues and cognitive profiles.
* Experience across psychological models including systemic, behavioural and individual therapies; experience with the relevant care group.
Desirable
* Band 8a – experience supervising assistant and trainee clinical psychologists.
* Band 8a – relevant post-registration/clinical experience and competency for this care group.
* Band 8a – experience contributing to clinical practice/service development/project work.
* Band 8a – demonstrable interest/skill in a relevant specialist area.


Other requirements

* Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check as per Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975.
* UK professional registration is required.
* This post is subject to DBS checks and right to work in the UK for the duration of the role.
