An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 Practice Development Nurse (PDN) to join GSTT Private Patients service.
This varied role spans inpatient, outpatient, and specialist dermatology services, supporting high-quality care across private patient pathways. It offers a unique opportunity to shape and enhance education within a dynamic, patient-focused environment.
The PDN will lead the development and delivery of core training programmes and specialist nursing pathways, while overseeing education provision for students, learners, and the wider clinical team.
We are seeking a motivated, forward-thinking nurse with a passion for education, able to bring innovation and expertise to support staff development across diverse clinical settings.
Working closely with the Head of Nursing, the post holder will design and implement targeted training programmes and professional development pathways. The role requires excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams across inpatient wards, outpatient services, and dermatology clinics.
Key responsibilities include delivering teaching and simulation, supporting competency development, leading programme design, and contributing to digital and blended learning initiatives.
A central aspect of the role is promoting the profile of nursing within private patient services, driving educational excellence and supporting career progression.
Main duties of the job
Education & Training
Identify learning needs and design, deliver, and evaluate training programmes. Support staff through teaching, simulation, competency assessment, and clinical supervision. Coordinate induction, preceptorship, and ongoing training for all staff, including overseas nurses and learners. Ensure compliance with mandatory training and contribute to curriculum development, liaising with Higher Education Institutions.
Clinical Practice & Quality Improvement
Promote evidence-based practice and a culture of continuous improvement. Maintain high standards of patient care and experience, advocating for patient-centred care. Support staff with documentation, clinical skills, and professional standards. Monitor and improve care quality through audit, benchmarking, and standard setting.
Leadership & Professional Responsibilities
Act as a visible clinical leader and role model. Ensure adherence to Trust policies, professional standards, and governance frameworks. Support appraisals, competency monitoring, and workforce development, contributing to recruitment and retention.
Research & Development
Encourage staff involvement in research and service improvement. Share best practice through teaching, presentations, and publications.
Management & Collaboration
Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and leaders. Contribute to service planning, education strategy, and business objectives, promoting the sharing of best practice internally and externally.
