Offer description

Salary: Apprentice National Minimum Wage (Age 16-20) | National Living Wage (Age 21+)

Would you like to work for a large forward-looking organisation that will challenge you and help grow your career, while giving you the opportunity to 'earn while you learn'? If so, come and join Torfaen County Borough Council's Career Development Programme. As an Apprentice, you'll work alongside experienced colleagues, learn job-specific skills, earn a wage, and work towards a Level 2 Award in Play Practice, a nationally recognised professional qualification.

The Council's Values are Fair, Supportive, Effective, and Innovative, which are very important to us. To be successful, you will need to demonstrate behaviour that reflects these Values.

As an Apprentice in the Play Service, you will support children's development through play by providing safe and inclusive play opportunities, while learning the skills and knowledge needed for a career in childcare. This will involve working in community play settings such as Family Play Sessions, After School Clubs, and play projects linked to schools, including work during school holidays.

This post is based in a friendly team where you will receive excellent support and on-the-job training. Additionally, you'll gain valuable work and life skills to help you launch your career.

Benefits include a tailored induction programme, ongoing support from dedicated staff, generous annual leave entitlement, a contributory pension scheme, access to a staff benefit scheme, and support with your personal and professional development.

We are based in the Eco Building, Springvale Industrial Estate, Cwmbran. For further information, please contact Andrea Sysum, Play Policy Officer, at 01495 742951 or email andrea.sysum@torfaen.go.uk.

Welsh Language Skills are desirable but not essential for this post.

Additional Employment Support: Torfaen County Borough Council can provide free additional support to assist you in your job search, including advice on application forms and interview techniques. To access this support, contact Customer Services at 01495 762200 and ask for the Prevention Hub for employability support.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. A comprehensive screening process, including an Enhanced DBS check, will be undertaken for all applicants.

Torfaen County Borough Council is committed to being a fair, supportive, and effective employer. We prioritize safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults. All employees, paid or unpaid, are expected to share this commitment.

You may submit your application in English or Welsh. All applications will be treated equally.
