Our client is a well-established manufacturer within the construction sector, specialising in high-quality fire-rated doors. As a Shift Team Leader, you will take responsibility for delivering the production plan within your designated department. You will supervise a team of operatives, ensuring output, efficiency, quality and safety standards are consistently achieved. You’ll be responsible for shift performance, identifying issues quickly and taking proactive steps to maintain targets.
Key Responsibilities:
* Promote and maintain a safe working environment in line with company procedures.
* Conduct routine safety and housekeeping checks, resolving or escalating concerns as required.
* Ensure correct use of PPE and safe operation of all equipment.
* Intervene immediately where unsafe practices or conditions are identified.
* Lead, motivate and support operators on shift.
* Manage attendance, timekeeping and conduct in line with company policy.
* Assist with recruitment, inductions, and probationary reviews.
* Develop and maintain a team skills matrix, identifying training and cross-training needs.
* Run shift briefings to communicate daily targets and priorities.
* Deliver the daily and weekly production schedule for your area.
* Monitor performance throughout the shift using regular progress checks
* Track planned versus actual output and respond quickly to shortfalls.
* Adjust labour allocation and liaise with maintenance, materials or quality teams to minimise downtime.
* Remove operational barriers that impact workflow.
* Ensure adherence to work instructions and quality procedures.
* Complete required in-process checks and manage non-conforming products appropriately.
* Investigate quality concerns and implement corrective actions.
* Drive improvements to reduce scrap, rework, and defects.
* Accurately record production data including output, downtime, and labour usage.
* Provide clear shift handovers and performance updates to senior management.
* Contribute to performance review meetings with insights and improvement ideas.
* Lead small-scale improvement initiatives such as workplace organisation and process optimisation.
* Support implementation of new equipment or process changes, ensuring the team is trained accordingly.
Skills & Experience Required:
* Experience supervising a team in a manufacturing or production environment.
* Demonstrated ability to achieve output and quality targets.
* Comfortable working with production data and basic reporting tools.
* Strong communication and leadership skills.
* Sound knowledge of health & safety practices within a factory setting.
Desirable
* Experience with lean manufacturing principles or continuous improvement methods.
* Background in woodworking, joinery, doors or similar production environments.
