Consultant Psychiatrist in Old Age Psychiatry (North Denbighshire)
The post holder will be responsible for Older Persons Services, covering GP surgeries in the North Denbighshire area. They will provide CPA reviews and ward rounds for inpatients in the catchment area, run outpatient clinics and deliver medical input to the memory service. The role also involves dealing with organic referrals for patients aged 65 and above and those with complex care needs. The post will comply with the Mental Health (Wales) Measure 2010 and may occasionally attract a junior doctor depending on training rota availability. Approved under the Mental Health Act (1983) as a section 12/2 doctor and under the Mental Health (Wales) Measure 2010, the consultant will deliver specialist psychiatric assessment, treatment and management for people with cognitive impairment, including young onset dementias and functional illnesses. They will provide medical leadership to the CMHTE, coordinate care for a limited number of personal cases, support the Health Board in commissioning long‑term care, and provide consultant and responsible clinician services to patients admitted to Bryn Hesketh and Tegid Ward.
Main duties of the job
* Provide specialist psychiatric assessment, treatment, and management for older adults with cognitive and functional illnesses.
* Conduct CPA reviews and inpatient ward rounds within the North Denbighshire catchment.
* Run outpatient clinics and give medical input to the memory service.
* Deal with organic referrals and support patients aged 65+ with complex needs.
* Lead and coordinate multimodal care in partnership with the CMHTE and Primary Mental Health Services.
* Prepare Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act opinions for patients in the catchment area.
* Report and consult to support the Health Board’s long‑term care commissioning.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
* MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
Desirable criteria
* Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management.
* MRCPsych or MRCPsych equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
* Welsh AC Approval.
Eligibility
Essential Criteria
* Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment.
* Included on the GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of completing CCT.
* Approved Clinician status or able to achieve within 3 months of appointment.
* Approved under S12 or able to achieve within 3 months of appointment.
Desirable criteria
* In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice.
Clinical Skills
Essential criteria
* Evidence of training in core and specialist competencies for community psychiatry.
Desirable criteria
* Experience leading a multi‑disciplinary team.
Teaching and Training
Essential Criteria
* Evidence of delivering postgraduate teaching.
* Evidence of delivering multidisciplinary teaching.
Desirable criteria
* Experience teaching medical students.
