Job Introduction

This position will work alongside the existing Interactive Production Managers within ITACU, to provide support to Production teams for managing votes, competitions, awards and charity appeals across all platforms. In addition, the role will require an understanding of other audience engagement services available through the BBC and the wider media market. Interactivity may be promoted across live or pre-recorded TV, radio, online, social media platforms or combinations of multiple outputs, so an understanding of the compliance and regulatory requirements associated with each media is required in this role.

This role is responsible for providing first line and ongoing technical support to content producers across a wide range of BBC output (both in-house, independent and partnerships) in a range of media including fixed line and mobile telephony, SMS and online. Experience in interactive services is a pre-requisite and an understanding of multiple platforms is preferable.

This role will work with the ITACU team and other BBC staff to understand the editorial requirements and ensure that an appropriate technical solution is implemented with a consideration for relevant risks and lessons learned from previous experiences. For many services, this will require working on projects with multiple parties, including service providers, verifiers, editorial staff (internal and external), teams across Chief Operating Officers Group including Technology & Media Operations, Product, Commercial, Rights & Business Affairs plus BBC Marketing & Audiences, the Privacy team and BBC Editorial Policy.

Interview process

This will be a virtual interview on MS Teams – no more than one hour consisting of technical and values-based questions plus the opportunity to ask us questions.

Main Responsibilities

* To provide initial advice and identify appropriate technical solutions for relevant interactive services across the BBC, advising on suitable technical contingencies.
* To oversee the implementation of interactive services to ensure that suitable technical controls (guarding against result manipulation, multiple entries etc.) are in place and that security considerations (such as data protection) are made.
* To evaluate the suitability of proposed external solutions to bespoke editorial requirements, ensuring that the functional and non-functional performance of the system is fit for purpose and ensuring that suitable testing (stress, performance, recover, security etc.) has been conducted.
* To support content-producing teams in evaluating the validity of a result, understanding the anticipated trend in a vote (for example) and being able to identify unusual activity that may indicate an attempt to manipulate a result.
* To maintain the ITACU Interactivity Management System (IMS), uploading evidence of appropriate compliance checks and contingencies.
* To form effective internal working relationships with managerial, content production, technical, legal / business affairs and editorial policy colleagues.

Are you the right candidate?

* An in-depth, up to date knowledge of interactive technologies/platforms is essential.
* Experience in managing technical and compliance risk including escalation procedures, planning, implementing mitigating action and ensuring contingencies are in place in the event of issues arising
* Strong enterprise leadership skills will be required as well as a demonstrable proactive approach to ensure the highest technical standards and ongoing compliance of the unit. In particular leading the live vote room environment requires quick and accurate responses to developing dynamic scenarios. This requires pressured application of all these skills described in this section.
* Strong analytical skills with regards to evaluating the authenticity of a result (be it advising on winner selection or judging the validity of an online vote).
* Proven experience in delivering projects/services in highly pressurised environments with multiple stakeholders preferably in a live studio environment.
