Immunotherapy Advanced Nurse Practitioner

The Immunotherapy (IO) Toxicity service is a regional pan-tumour service supporting patients with immune related adverse events secondary to oncological immunotherapy. The team supports both inpatients and outpatients following the identification of irAEs and works alongside the patients’ primary oncology teams to support patients throughout their toxicity journey.

The post holder will provide specialist advice and support to patients experiencing the side effects associated with immunotherapy, as well as providing education and support to staff throughout the trust. The team coordinates and supports day case management including IV methylprednisolone and Infliximab and delivers acute reviews in the central Clinical Decisions Unit (CDU). Further services include a weekly ambulatory clinic for complex toxicity management, patients on long-term immunosuppression and an outpatient clinic for those experiencing late effects from Immunotherapy. The team conducts twice weekly inpatient ward rounds, weekly Board rounds, weekly joint cardio-oncology ward rounds/patient reviews and a clinical advisory meeting with regional AO teams twice weekly. The team collaborates with medical specialties to coordinate management of complex toxicities and provides region-wide education to oncology and non-oncology teams.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Immunotherapy Advanced Nurse Practitioner to join our immunotherapy team at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre. This role is based at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre Liverpool; however, travel between network hospital sites will be required.

You should possess excellent communication and advanced clinical skills, be highly motivated and ideally have a background in cancer nursing. Recent experience in immunotherapy would be essential. You will need to be resilient and able to influence to cope with the demands of the role and the service need.

The team coordinates day-case management including IV methylprednisolone and Infliximab and delivers acute reviews in CDU. Further services include a weekly ambulatory clinic for complex toxicity management, patients on long-term immunosuppression, and an outpatient clinic for late effects. They also conduct twice-weekly inpatient ward rounds, a weekly Board round, a weekly joint cardio-oncology ward round/patient review and a clinical advisory meeting with regional AO teams twice weekly.

Senior leadership in collaboration with medical specialties ensures the management of complex toxicities; established referral pathways for investigations (including endoscopy and cardiac MRI); and region-wide education for oncology and non-oncology teams.
