Your role at BRE As a Structural Fire Engineer at BRE, you will contribute to cutting-edge fire safety analysis and research across a diverse range of areas, including fire experiments, compartmentation, structural performance at elevated temperatures, site investigations, and façade/cladding assessments. Your key responsibilities will include: Delivering innovative fire research projects for both government and private sector clients, involving a mix of large- and small-scale experimental testing as well as desk-based studies Conducting advanced structural modelling using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) Interpreting experimental and simulation data to produce high-quality technical reports Developing well-structured proposals in line with client briefs and deadlines Leading and managing fire research and consultancy projects from inception to delivery Representing BRE at client meetings, industry seminars, and conferences, acting as a trusted expert and ambassador for our work Your profile We're seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Structural Fire Engineer with the following attributes and qualifications: Essential Criteria Master’s degree or higher in Structural Engineering, Structural Fire Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Experience working in a structural fire engineering consultancy environment Proficiency with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools such as SAFIR or general-purpose FEA software Ability to interpret construction drawings and familiarity with CAD software Good understanding of UK fire safety codes and building regulations (advantageous) Strong attention to detail, with an organised and proactive approach to work Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with proficiency in office software Strong numerical and analytical abilities Capable of managing time effectively and prioritising tasks independently Willingness and ability to learn new tools and approaches as projects evolve Desirable Criteria Familiarity with the fire parts of the Eurocodes Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills Experience with Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software such as FDS or PyroSim Knowledge of structural design and assessment of both modern and historic buildings under fire and ambient conditions Excellent interpersonal skills, with a collaborative and professional attitude Self-motivated, confident, and goal-oriented BRE Benefits At BRE, we offer a competitive salary, reviewed annually, along with a comprehensive benefits package designed to support your financial security, well-being, and career development.
