Major Projects Planner
Location: Addlestone, Surrey, KT15 2AH
Contract: Initial 12-month contract
Hours: 37 hours per week (Monday to Friday, 9:00am – 5:00pm)
Work pattern: Hybrid – 1 day per week in the office
Pay rates
* PAYE: £28.26 per hour
* Umbrella: £36.98 per hour
Seven Resourcing are currently recruiting for an experienced Major Projects Planner to join a local authority planning service in Surrey. This is an excellent opportunity to work on high-profile and complex planning schemes within a supportive, professional environment.
The Role
You will provide additional capacity to the Planning service, supporting senior management while leading on major and strategically important planning applications. The role focuses on the progression, assessment, and determination of complex developments, ensuring decisions are made efficiently, lawfully, and to a high standard.
Key Responsibilities
* Act as lead case officer for a personal caseload of large-scale, complex, and high-profile planning applications and related appeals
* Manage applications through to determination in line with council procedures, policies, and delegated powers
* Support the delivery of service objectives set out in the Planning Business Plan, ensuring quality and timeliness of decision-making
* Assist with service improvement initiatives where appropriate
* Provide professional planning advice to elected members, colleagues, applicants, agents, and members of the public
* Prepare clear, robust, and well-reasoned reports and recommendations for Planning Committee
* Attend and present cases at Planning Committee meetings when required
* Assist in the supervision, mentoring, and support of junior planning officers on complex or sensitive cases
* Coordinate and contribute to planning appeals, including the preparation of statements and proofs of evidence
* Represent the council at hearings and public inquiries as an expert planning witness when required
* Maintain up-to-date knowledge of planning legislation, policy, and best practice, advising colleagues as necessary
* Undertake any other reasonable duties as directed by senior management
Requirements
* Significant experience working within development management, ideally in a local authority setting
* Proven ability to manage complex planning applications and appeals
* Strong knowledge of UK planning legislation, policy, and procedures
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Confidence advising members, stakeholders, and the public
* Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a wider team
