We are looking for a Senior Staff Nurses to join our Haematology/Oncology/Bone Marrow Transplant and Immunology services in both Butterfly Ward (inpatient) and Caterpillar Ward (Outpatients). You will be gaining expertise in the most advance and novel cancer treatments while providing care and support for children, young people, and their families through their treatment journey.

Main duties of the job
* To provide clinical leadership to a designated nursing team and ensure the provision of high-quality nursing care to children, young people and their families.
* To ensure the provision of excellent, evidence-based nursing care for the children, young people and their families at all times.
* To act as a role model and expert clinical practitioner.
* To assist in the safe, effective an efficient management of the department within the allocated resources.
* To promote a progressive attitude to the continual improvement of patient care through research and evidence-based practice.
* To undertake delegated responsibility for the department in the absence of the Ward Manager/Team Leader.
* To be familiar with and adopt the principles of the NHS Chief Nursing Officers vision for Compassion in Practice (NHS Commissioning Board Dec 2012)

Education/Qualification
Essential criteria
* NMC registered nurse (appropriate to clinical speciality)
* Relevant nursing qualification
* Evidence of ongoing professional development
* Systematic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT) competent
* Assessor or practice supervisor qualification or equivalent experience
Desirable criteria
* Postgraduate level nursing qualification in speciality
Experience/Knowledge
Essential criteria
* Significant post registration nursing experience caring for acute/chronically sick children and young people
* Understanding of professional and current issues in children’s nursing
* Demonstrable experience in teaching and supervising other staff members
* Knowledge and experience of handling clinical incidents, complaints and reporting
* Understanding of principals of clinical governance ( risk management, audit, quality)
Desirable criteria
* Understanding of nursing practice and innovation outside of GOSH
Skills/Abilities
Essential criteria
* Ability to plan and prioritise care for patients
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Advanced time management skills
* Able to prioritise own work and delegate tasks as appropriate
* Able to work well both in a team and autonomously
* Ability to teach and supervise other staff members

* Administration of intravenous (IV) drugs
