Overview
We are seeking a skilled CNC Operator & Woodworker to support the production of high-quality furniture frames within a working woodshop environment.
This is a hands-on role combining 3-axis CNC routing with traditional woodworking and frame assembly. You will work closely with our joiner and digital design support to machine, assemble and refine structural components in plywood and selected hardwoods.
This position suits a practical, technically minded individual who values accuracy, structure and manufacturing discipline.
Core Responsibilities
CNC Operation
Operate a 3-axis CNC router (8' x 4')
Set up sheet material and solid timber stock accurately
Load and verify CNC programs
Understand and review G-code before machining
Select appropriate tooling (compression, upcut, downcut, ball nose etc.)
Adjust feeds, speeds and step-downs where required
Position tabs logically and optimise cutting order
Minimise tear-out and material waste
Monitor machining quality and troubleshoot issues
Maintain safe and clean machine setup
Perform routine maintenance and calibration checks
Woodworking & Frame Construction
Assemble CNC-cut plywood frame components
Integrate solid timber elements where required
Apply mortise & tenon, dowel and slot joinery
Work from technical drawings and CAD outputs
Ensure structural integrity for upholstered frames
Prepare components for upholstery (tacking rails, support members)
Operate traditional woodworking machinery
Maintain accuracy and repeatability across batches
Knowledge & Skills Required
Minimum 3 years practical woodworking experience
Proven CNC operation experience
Strong understanding of timber and plywood behaviour
Knowledge of structural joinery methods
Ability to read technical drawings accurately
Confidence selecting and changing cutters
Safe workshop practice and machine handling
High attention to detail
Methodical and organised working style
Digital Awareness (Advantage)
Basic understanding of CAD/CAM workflows
Familiarity with Autodesk Fusion or similar software
Interest in parametric modelling and digital workflows
Ability to liaise with external CAD support
