As a reporter at GlobalCapital (GC) team, you will cover an area of the capital markets, breaking news, reporting on transactions and trends, writing opinion, features, interviews and more; and contributing to our wider business through contributions to events and data products as required. The successful candidate does not need to be an experienced reporter — the job is suitable for career changers and those just starting out. But they will need to demonstrate both a hunger to be a journalist and an aptitude for the capital markets. Reporters work under supervision of senior editors, who will train them, edit their work and guide them in building relationships with sources. However, successful reporters at GC are those that very quickly demonstrate that they can build their own contacts, source their own stories and work under their own initiative. The job is fast-paced and the learning curve is steep but offers a chance to develop skills in a variety of areas and to develop a valuable subject specialism and to be part of a collaborative, supportive newsroom. There will also be the chance to build a public profile by travelling to meet contacts and representing GC at public events and on our suite of podcasts. The editorial team is at the heart of everything GC does as a business from content to data, awards and events. The team covers capital markets across a number of asset classes from public sector issuers, investment grade credit, covered bonds, securitisation, equities, emerging market debt, syndicated loans and more. As a reporter, you will interact directly with financial market professionals as well as collaborate closely with colleagues based in the UK, the US and Bulgaria. What you will do as a reporter at GC: Drive GC’s coverage of an area of the capital markets, covering the latest deals, trends, themes as well as providing accurate, timely data to our proprietary datasets if required. Get to know the market and its key players to maintain GC’s reputation in the markets it covers. Contribute opinion pieces, longer features and analysis and make appearances on our podcasts as required. Be the voice of your market within the newsroom, pitching story ideas, championing special report ideas, and writing for them; and providing insight and a source of collaboration for the rest of the editorial team to make sure GC is at the forefront of the newest trends and ideas in capital markets. Write with accuracy in the house style and to tight deadlines, to maintain GC’s distinctive editorial voice and its reputation as a reliable and indispensable part of working in capital markets. Build a broad number of deep relationships with key people in your market and become part of its daily fabric to ensure GC understands its subject, its subscribers and their needs better than any of its rivals and has as many sources for stories as possible. Represent the business at international industry events to provide coverage and build contacts Support your section editor and other senior colleagues in seeing that the relevant news and data sections of the GC website are kept up to date and that relevant email news alerts are well presented with fresh content each day and distributed to deadline.
