We are currently seeking an Electrical Engineer to form part of the electrical services team in order to provide specialist technical support and electrical safety support, within a specified geographical region, predetermined by your location. As the Successful Candidate, your role will be to undertake technical assessments and audits of Thames Water's electrical personnel, and provide detailed technical reports and presentations, purveying the gravity of the needs, as well as providing low-voltage electrical technical support to our operations managers. This is an excellent opportunity to make a real difference to Thames Water's environmental impact, and you will be actively helping to reduce pollution from our sites.
Responsibilities
* Be a technical lead in projects and investigations. Champion Thames Waters Electrical safety rules, policies, and procedures.
* Delivery of LV electrical safety improvement projects.
* Support around 12 line managers with approximately 40 electrically skilled technicians, with the recruitment and development of their electrical staff.
* Act as an Authorised Person (LV) across a geographical area issuing Permits to Work completed in line with the Electrical Safety Rules.
* Technical oversight and direction to newly qualified or appointed technicians.
* Practical and theoretical assessment of technical staff against the company's electrical policy and procedures.
* Appoint technicians in line with job role and technical competence. (Competent Persons Electrical assessment)
* Follow up with field-based assessments, Identify Skill gaps or fade through electrical safety audits. (SHE6 P)
* Provide mentoring and coaching to address skill gaps, some of which will require classroom-based and practical teaching.
* Leading local electrical technical community forums.
Base Location and Working Pattern
Base Location: The base location for this role is flexible across the Thames Valley and Home Counties area, depending on your location. Working Pattern: 38 hours per week, Monday-Friday.
Qualifications & Experience
* You should be a time-served apprentice with significant experience in mechanical/electrical systems or with NVQ or C&G level 3 in mechanical/electrical engineering.
* Understanding of BS7671 (IEE Wiring Regulations) is key to the success of this role.
* A problem solver, able to identify potential issues and implement solutions, or to escape if required.
* An excellent communicator, providing technical expertise to Internal and External staff and contractors.
* Resilient, adapting to the pressures of work and working in a constantly changing environment.
* Ability to work with minimum supervision, under own initiative to design and standards.
* Knowledge and awareness of Health and Safety issues relevant to the industry.
* Team player who can work in many different teams, showing respect for others, providing helpful feedback and supporting the development of others.
* Full UK driving licence.
