PURCELL SCHOOL
School nurse
Posted: 21 June
Offer description

This is a unique term-time only role within a small but thriving boarding community, offering the successful candidate the opportunity to build close working relationships with clinical colleagues, students, residential and pastoral staff, and to manage the provision of 24-hour medical and welfare support during term-time. The School has a modern, well-equipped health centre and an exceptional on-site healthcare team, including a residential RGN, a physiotherapist with a special interest in working with musicians, and a well-qualified counsellor. We also have excellent relationships with Attenborough Surgery, Bushey Pharmacy, CAHMS, and other local healthcare providers.

The primary focus of the role is to manage the day-to-day operations of the Health Centre, ensuring outstanding healthcare for the School community, providing exceptional medical care during the working day, coordinating off-site medical appointments, and ensuring compliance with all relevant standards. The School Nurse is the main contact for parents concerned about their children’s health and is responsible for informing parents of medical issues when necessary. The role involves managing records using Medical Tracker software and SIMS, and coordinating visiting health teams for routine vaccinations.

We seek an enthusiastic, warm, and approachable professional nurse with a genuine love for young people and a passion for outstanding care. You must hold significant medical qualifications to undertake the duties, and additional mental health qualifications or experience may be advantageous. The ideal candidate is unflappable, resilient, able to handle emergencies calmly, and skilled at building relationships with students, colleagues, and parents.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

This is a permanent, full-time role during term time only, covering 34 weeks per year plus five INSET days. Working hours are full-time, 37.5 hours per week, with exact times to be discussed. The salary follows the School’s support staff scale, with annual reviews and progression based on appraisal. Free meals are provided during term time. The post includes a six-month probationary period with four weeks’ notice, extending to one full term after confirmation. Regular appraisals will continue throughout employment.

HOW TO APPLY

If interested, please complete the School’s Application Form (available on our website) and send it with a supporting Personal Statement to the Principal. Do not send a CV. Interviews will assess subject knowledge, pastoral experience, student engagement, and willingness to contribute to the school community. Candidates must bring proof of identity, right to work, and qualifications to the interview.

Applications should be sent via email to recruitment@purcell-school.org or by letter to: Recruitment, The Purcell School, Aldenham Road, Bushey, Hertfordshire, WD23 2TS.

Closing date: 9am on Monday 23rd June 2025
