Mechanical Design Engineer

Employment: Full-time, Permanent, Hybrid (minimum 3 days in the office)
Overview:
Design of components, products, and systems using 3D CAD software (SolidWorks preferred but not essential).
Development of existing solutions and creation of new designs to meet customer or internal requirements.
Work in line with the Product Development Process.
Conduct technical investigations to support new product development.
Create documentation, 3D CAD models, manufacturing drawings, and costing/manufacturing Bills of Materials (BOMs).
Prepare technical presentations and documents.
Ensure robust engineering processes and maintain engineering integrity.
Develop solutions to challenges in both traditional and evolving markets to support LPAs growth targets.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop new products and maintain legacy products.
Manage multiple projects, meeting timescales and deadlines.
Design components, products, and systems by applying principles of mechanics, electricity, heat transfer, and materials.
Develop solutions by researching customer requirements, testing manufacturing methods, and selecting materials.
Assist in ensuring product quality through test methods, prototype testing, and process validation.
Prepare technical reports by collecting, analysing, and summarising data.
Provide design information and respond to technical requests.
Ensure compliance of products/systems with standards and government regulations.
Contribute to product data (datasheets, brochures, CAD models, drawings, BOMs, etc.).
Liaise with customers to achieve design solutions; manage and present at customer meetings/workshops.
Maintain professional knowledge via training, workshops, publications, and professional societies.
Deliver design outputs in line with standards, directives, and legislation to ensure safety and reliability.
Develop designs that comply with strict environmental requirements.
Represent the company at meetings, exhibitions, and customer visits (UK and international travel required).
Support continuous improvement initiatives across the business.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent/relevant experience).
Strong presentation and technical communication skills.
Conceptual design and problem-solving skills.
Quality-focused approach with the ability to design to relevant standards and directives (e.g. LVD, MD).
Enthusiastic and eager to learn.
Practical experience with FMEA/FMECA/Risk Engineering.
Accountability for equipment, software, and tools in your area.
Commitment to personal development and keeping skills up to date.
Positive, cooperative attitude with a focus on continuous improvement.
