You will work closely with GPs, nurses, and other healthcare professionals, providing direct patient care, assisting with clinical procedures, promoting health and wellbeing, and enhancing the overall patient experience. Main duties of the job
The following are the core responsibilities of the Healthcare Assistant. There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels:
* Undertake new patient and NHS health checks
* Support the practice nurse with health promotion programmes
* Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, recording findings accurately
* Undertake wound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as required
* Support the practice nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics
* Carry out BMI checks as directed
* Act as a chaperone as required
* To undertake phlebotomy
* Carry out ECGs as requested
* Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation
* Ensure the clinical area is adequately stocked and prepared for each session
* Ensure clinical waste is removed from the clinical area and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the practice IPC policy
* Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate
* Carry out any other tasks as directed by the lead nurse in support of patient care

Job responsibilities
Working under the direct supervision of the Practice Nurses, the Healthcare Assistant will assist the Practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of specific programmes of patient care. The primary duties and responsibilities of a Health Care Assistant are:
New patient health checks
Dressings
NHS Health Checks
Weight Management
Administration of vaccinations appropriate to training and qualifications
Urinalysis
Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/Nurses
Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording
Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms
Ordering and maintaining an adequate stock of consumables
Preparing equipment before, during and minor operations and supporting Clinician
Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted
Chaperoning and assisting patients who are being examined by another clinician.
Maintain general tidiness and cleanliness of nurses and treatment rooms
Ordering of Health Promotion Literature
Attend and participate in any Practice meetings when required.
Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post
Required qualifications/skills are
Proven experience as a Health Care Assistant or in a similar role within a GP practice or care setting

Experience
* Confident working with members of the public in a supportive and professional manner Brings experience from a healthcare environment, understanding the importance of patient care and confidentiality
* Have previous experience within a primary care setting Possess a good understanding of infection prevention and control procedures
Qualifications
* GCSE grade A to C in English and Maths, Literate and able to perform basic numerical calculations Fluent in spoken and written English Ability to accurately receive, record and relay information both verbally and written Computer skill including working with the EMIS Web clinical system Ability to work on own initiative Ability to organise delegated work
* Qualified to NVQ level 3 in Health and Social Care Candidates with health care support experience will be at an advantage. Phlebotomy training. Candidates must demonstrate a willingness to learn other skills. Experience of dealing with the public face to face and over the telephone Flexible with working hours, when needed.
