Overview
As a Domestic Assistant you will be responsible for keeping wards, offices, and public areas clean to a high standard. You will work as part of the domestic service team, as well as part of the wider community within the hospital setting.
Responsibilities
* Maintain a high standard of cleaning in line with infection prevention.
* Work from a daily/weekly schedule in both clinical and non-clinical areas to ensure the hospital is clean and patients have a pleasant and safe stay.
* Carry out a range of cleaning duties, including:
o Cleaning patients or service user’s room/ward
o Cleaning toilets and bathroom areas
o Cleaning communal areas, such as lounges, dining areas and corridors
o Cleaning the utility room
o Carrying out deep-cleaning operations in certain areas
* Use appropriate cleaning equipment (e.g., vacuum cleaners, mops, electric floor cleaners) and cleaning products safely and effectively
* Keep up to date with safety procedures (e.g., fire procedures and escape routes) and undertake required workplace training
* Carry out professional duties in line with set procedures and standards
* Ensure infection control policies are adhered to
* Work as part of a team, using initiative to prioritise and organise daily duties while maintaining a professional approach
* Ensure cleanliness of both clinical and non-clinical areas to the required standard
Requirements and Training
* Entry requirements: There is no entry requirement to become a domestic assistant; NVQ Level 1 in cleaning may be required
* Training: Induction and relevant training will be provided on start
* Communication: Good communication skills; caring and sensitive nature
* Physical fitness: Ability to be on your feet for long periods; knowledge of lifting and manual handling techniques
