The role
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. This role is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on, practical engineer with enthusiasm for developing innovative solutions for a varied range of challenges in all military land vehicle applications. You must be able to take initiative and highlight opportunities for improving the team processes and best practice.
Day-to-day, you’ll be responsible for, but not limited to; speaking with customers and various other functions in the business for requirement capture, producing CAD models and drawings, producing detailed design reports, investigating new manufacturing technologies, providing engineering input to shop floor challenges, conduct fit, form function assessments, being hands on and conducting various studies on different Babcock and customer sites. You'll also:
1. Conduct Defect Investigation and root cause analysis of in-service issues
2. Write Engineering change requests and conduct design change impact assessments
3. Conduct re-engineering activity consisting of but not limited to: scanning, CAD modelling, material identification, feature analysis, finite element analysis (FEA)
4. Interact with The Authority via multiple routes including direct conversation, meetings, workshops and digital communication
5. Assist in developing task lists for the maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) organisation
Please note that this position involves travel/working across a range of internal and customer sites, as a requirement of the role.
This role is full time, 37 hours per week and requires regular travel across a range of internal and customer sites on a weekly / monthly basis alongside home working arrangements.
Essential experience of the Senior Mechanical Engineer:
6. Significant experience in a similar role
7. Thorough understanding of the design process to solve specific problems
8. Experience of working within a multiskilled engineering team
9. Experience with a hands-on approach to solving problems
Qualifications for the Senior Mechanical Engineer:
We value difference and don’t have a fixed idea when it comes to background or education, provided you can show the required level of experience and/or willingness to learn then we would like to hear from you. However, a relevant Engineering degree or equivalent and aspiration to become Chartered would be desirable.
