Job Title: Consultant Midwife
Are you an experienced post-registration midwife seeking a new challenge? This is an exciting opportunity for an aspiring Consultant Midwife to develop both personally and professionally.
The Consultant Midwife will utilize midwifery expertise to promote clinical pathways in maternity care and lead midwifery practice across all areas of maternity services.
The role involves leading and supporting midwives to achieve their full potential as autonomous practitioners, placing women and their families at the center of care planning. The post holder will act as an innovator, motivator, change agent, and role model, with a high level of autonomy to support and influence clinical pathways, including implementing national initiatives, service reconfiguration, and appropriate models of care. The successful candidate will also facilitate and promote Public Health choices.
To succeed in this varied role, you will need a flexible approach, creative thinking, and a willingness to lead system-wide changes in practice.
We offer a Band 8B post as a unique opportunity for candidates requiring training and development to prepare for the role of Consultant Midwife.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Lead service redesign to empower midwives to meet the needs of the local population, aligned with the Better Birth Strategy and relevant policies.
2. Develop midwifery practice across all areas of maternity services.
3. Promote and develop clinical pathways for both high-risk and low-risk care.
4. Provide expert clinical advice to ensure best practice standards, improve outcomes, and reduce unnecessary interventions and LSCS births.
5. Contribute to clinical governance and the maternity incentive scheme (CNST) by ensuring evidence-based practice and staff competency development.
6. Engage in research and audit activities with a multidisciplinary approach.
7. Represent the directorate at external networks and report progress.
