Role: Technician – Art – Internal Only

Location: The Bedford Sixth Form

Salary/Benefits: Salary is between £23,557 and £25,849 per annum (Pro-Rata) DOE and Qualifications, People’s pension, Retail and Leisure Discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, accessing college courses.

Hours/Weeks: 7 hours per week – 39 weeks per year

Contract Type: Permanent – Term Time

About the role:

We are currently seeking a Technician in Art to join our Sixth Forms department at The Bedford College Group.

As a Technician, you play an important role in the success of our students through:

1. Resource & Equipment Management – Maintain, prepare, and monitor materials and equipment to ensure safe, effective use in lessons, including stock checks, purchases, and apparatus setup.
2. Lesson & Project Support – Assist teaching staff by preparing resources, offering technical advice, and supporting students with individual project requirements across Art and Design subjects.
3. Health & Safety & Risk Management – Conduct annual risk assessments for Art rooms and equipment, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards and promoting safe working practices.
4. College-Wide Engagement – Support open evenings, exams, and events across TBCG campuses, contributing to team meetings and broader college activities.
5. Statutory Responsibilities – Uphold safeguarding, equality, diversity, and inclusion policies, and actively participate in training and development to maintain professional standards.

About you:

6. Qualifications & Sector Experience – Holds relevant professional qualifications and GCSEs (A–C) in English and Maths, with current experience in an Art department and working with 16–18 year olds in Sixth Form or FE settings.
7. Technical & Creative Expertise – Skilled in preparing, handling, and maintaining a wide range of art equipment, supporting exhibitions, and applying up-to-date knowledge of art techniques, processes, and health & safety (including COSHH).
8. Professional Skills & Attributes – Demonstrates excellent communication, organisation, and interpersonal skills; able to work independently and as part of a team, with a robust and flexible approach to workload and deadlines.
9. Values & Student Support – Committed to student success and Sixth Form values, consistently creating a welcoming environment, promoting a positive image, and building strong relationships with students, staff, and stakeholders.
10. Safeguarding & Development – Understands safeguarding responsibilities, maintains appropriate boundaries, and is committed to ongoing professional development, with a willingness to work across all Bedford College locations.

About The Bedford College Group
The Bedford College Group was formed in 2017 following the merger of Bedford College and Tresham College and is now the largest provider of education in the South East Midlands, with over 15,000 students passing through our doors each year.
