Senior/Pharmacy Assistant - Aseptic Services
Position: Band 2 Pharmacy Assistant, with progression to Band 3 Senior Pharmacy Assistant. Salary £25,272 - £27,476 per annum (pro rata).
Job Overview
The Pharmacy Department at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH) is a large, busy unit with over 180 staff. This role supports the Aseptic Services Unit, preparing chemotherapy and other treatments under the supervision of a Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacist.
Responsibilities
* Participate in the reconstitution and manufacture of chemotherapeutic and cytotoxic drugs, including intrathecal chemotherapy, adhering to Good Manufacturing Practice.
* Assemble components and consumables for aseptic and radiopharmacy products in order of priority.
* Transfer and sanitize components into the cleanroom following SOPs.
* Support the checking pharmacist with labelling, pouching, call screening and delivery of urgent products to wards.
* Clean all aseptic and radiopharmacy areas according to SOPs and housekeeping schedules.
* Carry out environmental monitoring, prepare and test cleanroom isolators, and maintain weekly monitoring records.
* Record and report temperature and pressure readings, alert senior staff if limits are exceeded.
Requirements
* GCSE or equivalent in Maths, English and Science.
* NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services.
* Strong attention to detail, ability to work under pressure, and consistent high standards.
* Computer skills for use of pharmacy systems.
* Teamworking skills and a flexible approach to duties.
Preferred
* Previous experience in pharmacy or drug manufacturing.
* Knowledge of GPP, aseptic technique and environmental monitoring.
* Experience with online learning platforms.
Working Conditions
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with one weekend day every 10 weeks and 3 bank holidays each year in Aseptic Services. Part‑time positions considered for minimum 30 hours to meet apprenticeship entry.
