We are looking for individuals with or without experience of working in healthcare, to join the NHS family helping people from your local community. Healthcare Support Worker (HCSW) opportunities are available at Airedale Hospital in medical and surgical areas. We also have positions at Castleberg Hospital, Settle.

No experience? No problem. We will teach you everything you need to know.

To us, it is more important that you are a caring and kind person with a genuine desire to help and support patients and their families day and night. Working as a Healthcare Support Worker in a hospital means you will need to be flexible and able to work various shifts over a 24 hour period.

Main duties of the job

Main duties of the job

As aHealth Care Support Worker, youwill be a hugely valuable support to our Nursing and Midwifery teams providing care to our patients. Every day will be different, and you will work alongside the rest of the team carrying out a wide range of tasks and assisting with care to support the needs of the patients and their families.

Examples of what you may do as part of your role

* Washing and dressing patients who need help
* Serving meals and assisting patients to eat
* Helping patients to move around
* Talking to patients and their families
* Monitoring patient conditions

Example shift patterns (worked over a 6 week rota period)

Early 07.30 to 16.00

Late 12.00 to 20.00

Long Day 07.30 to 20.00

Night 19.30 to 08.00.

Support

We offer an initial two-week induction and training programme for HCSWs. This includes learning about the Hospital and all the core skills you will need such as preventing infection and how to provide direct care. You will have some learning with registered nurses and other days specifically for HCSW. For anyone new to care, we then offer two weeks support working alongside an experienced HCSW in clinical practice, learning the role before being included in the staffing numbers. We will support you to achieve a Care Certificate during your first few months if you do not already have one. The care certificate takes you through 15 different standards such as patient confidentiality and nutrition and hydration. Anyone who wishes to progress may be supported to achieve a Health and Social Care qualification, in partnership with Keighley College on our apprenticeship programme.

There are further development opportunities if you are interested, with career pathways to become a Nursing Associate and Registered Nurse.

Experience & Achievements

* Experience of working in a formal care setting or as an informal carer
* Previous experience of dealing with the public

* Demonstrate literacy in IT


Qualifications & Professional Training

* Possess or be willing to work towards the care certificate
* Be able to demonstrate basic literacy and numeracy skills required for the post
* Level 2 diploma in Health and Social Care
* Functional skills level 1 numeracy
* Functional skills level 1 literacy
