Senior Transport Operations Manager – Tesco Widnes
At XPO, our people and our partnerships set us apart. We’re looking for an inspiring and operationally strong Transport Operations Manager to help lead our Tesco Widnes site. In this pivotal role, you’ll ensure the operation runs safely, compliantly and efficiently — while creating an environment where colleagues feel supported, engaged and empowered to deliver their best. You’ll deputise for the General Manager, playing a key role in the strategic direction of the site.
Pay, Benefits And More
We’re looking to offer a salary of up to £62,000 per annum plus a company car or car allowance and a discretionary bonus. In addition, we offer 25 days holiday (plus bank holidays), as well as the option to buy additional days. What You’ll Do
Compliance & Fleet Excellence
You’ll set the standard for safety and compliance across the site, ensuring we remain audit‑ready every day.
* Maintain the highest levels of vehicle and driver compliance
* Ensure all fleet is maintained to plan, including non‑site fleet moving through the network
* Investigate PG9 offences and elevate appropriately
* Drive robust defect reporting and maintain online vehicle files to an exceptional standard
* Manage drivers through DCRS and promote best practice through engagement and coaching
Operational Performance & Service Delivery
You’ll support Operations Managers to deliver outstanding service to Tesco stores, continually raising the bar on performance.
* Achieve Green Service across all store formats
* Lead accurate root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventative actions
* Ensure full systemic adherence and address all non‑conformance
* Deliver FIVE STAR weekends to the highest operational and safety standards
Financial Responsibility & Resource Optimisation
Working closely with the General Manager, you’ll help deliver contractual obligations within budget.
* Monitor KPIs using Telematics and T&A, ensuring WTD compliance
* Validate temporary labour usage and ensure best value
* Maximise fleet utilisation and support non‑Tesco revenue opportunities
* Ensure General Haulage lanes are processed and acknowledged systemically
QHSE Leadership
You’ll champion a culture where safety is lived, not just taught.
* Lead the team through the site’s 12‑month safety roadmap
* Drive high engagement through safety conversations, inspections and behavioural observations
* Ensure all colleagues receive required training before undertaking tasks
* Investigate all incidents and accidents within set timescales, reporting through Evotix
* Conduct in‑depth investigations and prepare detailed review packs
People, Culture & Engagement
You’ll help shape a positive, inclusive and high‑performing workplace.
* Work closely with HR and the General Manager to manage colleagues fairly and consistently
* Manage driver holiday allocation within site caps
* Achieve 100% recruitment against budgeted headcount
* Support disciplinary processes up to and including misconduct
* Play a key role in delivering the site’s colleague engagement strategy
