The opportunity We need you to join our Safety & Regulatory Affairs team as an Internal Hazards Engineer, where you’ll play a key role in supporting the development of the Rolls‑Royce SMR power station design. This role is central to the successful delivery of the Generic Design Assessment (GDA) and wider licensing and permitting activities. You’ll work across disciplines, influencing design decisions and ensuring internal hazards are understood, assessed and effectively managed from the earliest stages. What we need you to do In this role, we need you to: Support the development and ongoing maintenance of the internal hazards programme as part of the wider delivery plan Develop internal hazards submissions for the Environment, Safety, Security and Safeguards (E3S) Case, including contributions to GDA Work closely with engineering disciplines to ensure designs meet internal hazards requirements and identify practical solutions where gaps exist Apply the appropriate level of quality, governance and assurance to internal hazards analyses and reports Undertake, analyse and present internal hazards outputs in support of regulatory and licensing activities Represent internal hazards at technical reviews, programme forums and external engagements with regulators and stakeholders Support the assessment of candidate sites for Rolls‑Royce SMR power stations from an internal hazards perspective Model and analyse the impact of internal hazards on complex facilities What we’re looking for There’s no such thing as a “perfect” candidate. We need you to bring: Knowledge of internal hazards that could affect the safe operation of complex facilities, such as nuclear power plants Experience contributing to safety cases and deterministic safety assessment activities Awareness of the UK civil nuclear regulatory framework, or experience working within other international regulatory regimes Experience supporting the design of nuclear power plants or similarly complex engineered systems Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to represent your work both internally and externally A proven ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams and deliver to challenging timescales Qualifications We need you to be qualified to degree level (or equivalent) in Engineering, Maths, Physics or a related discipline — or to offer significant relevant industry experience that demonstrates equivalent capability.
