Overview
Do you have an interest in or passion for working with children and young people with diabetes? We are seeking a full-time band 6 paediatric diabetes specialist dietitian to join the children’s diabetes team at Dorset County Hospital. The department is a supportive, multi-disciplinary team based on site and includes administrative staff, a health care assistant, diabetes specialist nurses, a lead diabetes specialist dietitian, a clinical psychologist, an assistant psychologist, and paediatric diabetes consultants. The majority of children we support have type 1 diabetes with a high proportion using HCL systems. The role involves empowering children and families through evidence-based diabetes education via MDT clinics, pre-pump dietitian reviews, HCL start sessions and annual dietetic reviews, as well as providing support at diagnosis and during hospital admissions.
Working as part of the Dorset County Hospital Paediatric Dietetic and Diabetes teams to provide an efficient and effective, evidence-based dietetic service for a complex caseload of children and young people with diabetes (CYPD).
Responsibilities
* To be a source of clinical expertise to the paediatric diabetes multidisciplinary team.
* Provide dietetic care for CYPD, primarily those with type 1 diabetes, in a variety of settings within the West Dorset locality.
* Provide specialised assessment, treatment and support of patients with co-existing medical conditions requiring additional dietary manipulation.
* Work as part of the paediatric diabetes multidisciplinary team; train other healthcare professionals, school and nursery staff and other care providers.
* Provide support for junior members of the team and student dietitians.
* Contribute to MDT clinics, pre-pump reviews, HCL start sessions, annual reviews and admissions to hospital, and empower families with education.
* Collaborate with the department to support service delivery and CPD; participate in Dorset-wide Dietetic CPD sessions and monthly departmental sessions.
Qualifications & Experience
* Experience in the management of paediatric diabetes and a desire to develop knowledge and upskill further in childhood and adolescent diabetes.
* Ability to work within a supportive, multi-disciplinary team and provide evidence-based dietetic care.
Team, Setting & Development
Newly appointed staff receive regular reviews and support from their line manager. The department encourages CPD and benefits from good relationships with neighbouring Dietetic Teams.
