Your newpanyYou will be joining a specialist secondary setting in Preston that supports pupils aged 11–16 with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs. The school is a small, nurturing provision with small class sizes and high staff-to-student ratios, allowing for personalised support and strong relationship building. The setting focusses on helping pupils who may have experienced barriers in mainstream education to re-engage with learning, develop emotional regulation and build confidence for the future.
Your new roleAs a Teaching Assistant, you will work full-time (5 days per week) on an ongoing basis, supporting pupils both in and out of the classroom. This is a highly rewarding role where you will play a key part in helping students make positive progress.Your responsibilities will include:
1. Providing 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEMH needs
2. Supporting behaviour management using consistent and calm de-escalation strategies
3. Encouraging engagement, focus and positive relationships with learning
4. Assisting teachers in delivering a tailored and supportive curriculum
5. Supporting pupils’ social, emotional and personal development
6. Contributing to a safe, structured and nurturing learning environment
What you'll need to succeedTo be successful in this role, you will:
7. Have experience working with young people with SEMH, SEND or behavioural needs
8. Be confident managing challenging behaviour in a calm and consistent manner.
9. Be resilient, patient and able to build positive, trusting relationships.
10. Ideally, have experience in education, alternative provision or care settings.
11. Bemitted to safeguarding and supporting pupil wellbeing.
