Overview
Disabled lady requires a female assistant to provide companionship and assist with personal, social and domestic tasks. Must be a driver; applicants need to be flexible. Hours are 9-4, two to three days a week. To start asap. Salary £13.36 per hour. Location Leominster.
Responsibilities
* Personal care: help with bathing and dressing, assist with hair and make-up, and help with eating.
* Housekeeping: assist with light household duties, bringing washing in, washing/ironing, making lunches, hoovering and polishing; help the lady become more independent with these tasks.
* Shopping: assist with groceries, gifts, clothes shopping; assist with loading/unloading the wheelchair, bags, etc., when leaving the vehicle.
* Preparation and cooking of some meals: wash up and keep the kitchen clean and tidy; currently assisting with lunches, with aim to prepare evening meals in future.
* Hobbies and social activities: help build confidence by taking to regular lunches; support to attend social activities and holidays with agreement; may involve swimming in future.
* Supporting during events and appointments: accompany to medical assessments, doctor and dental appointments.
* Other tasks: help with sorting paperwork, letters and responding to emails.
About You
* Basic maths and literacy; basic IT skills are an advantage.
* Previous experience desirable but not essential; training will be provided.
* Basic cookery and gardening skills; willing to attend training (e.g., first aid, manual handling).
* Ability to understand confidentiality, be patient, calm, a good communicator and have a good sense of humour.
* Support independence and be able to work on your own initiative with flexibility for holiday or sickness cover; teamwork encouraged.
* Must be a car driver/owner and physically fit for manual handling; the employer has a car and training to drive it will be provided.
Direct Payments
Direct payments are available from Local Authorities for people who have a care and support plan following a social care assessment. An amount of money is allocated to purchase the assistance and care needed to live independently. The employer will be responsible for recruitment, contracts, supervision, pay, training, etc., with support from a service to assist in meeting these responsibilities.
Salary and Hours
Salary: flat rate (£13.36 per hour) taking into account unsociable hours and weekend working. Hours: minimally contracted; additional support may be required with notice (flexibility helpful).
