Shropshire Youth Support Trust (SYST) is looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Youth Engagement Officer to join our team. About SYST: SYST, a registered charity since 2015, operates from The SYST Enterprise Centre in Telford. Our mission is to empower young people, particularly those facing multiple challenges such as mental health issues, NEET status, offending behaviours, and social exclusion. We run enterprise centres and hubs, delivering workshops, mentoring, and coaching to create opportunities for personal and financial independence.
Purpose of the Role: As a NEET Engagement Worker, you will be assisting the SYST beneficiaries with their own journey into self-employment via our ASYSTED Business Enterprise Programme, guiding young people towards sustainable futures. Your role involves building quality relationships with young people, volunteers, and partners. Key Responsibilities:
* Community engagement to promote SYST’s services and generate program referrals.
* Support applicants in creating and developing their business idea and articulating this within a business plan with a financial forecast. You should be confident in analysing cashflow forecasts and be able to assess affordability and business viability in a highly effective manner.
* One-to-one engagement with individuals, focusing on their strengths and priorities.
* Co-producing personalized Support Plans with clients.
* Building strong links with local organizations and stakeholders
* Collaborating with Employment & Skills Providers for effective partnership working
* Maintaining accurate records and reporting progress regularly
* Ability to use initiative to achieve positive outcomes.
* Work towards team KPIs and targets Participate in business start-up workshops or boot-camps as required.
* CRM record keeping ensuring all company records are accurately reflected.
* Signpost clients to support organisations, who may be able to assist in their transition into self-employment.
* Provide weekly reports to the management team on case progression.
* Liaising with various stakeholders including marketing, events, and external entities
Requirements:
* Ability to interpret and understand financial accounts.
* Confidence providing advice and guidance.
* Ability to work effectively as part of a team and prioritise workload.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel.
* Be target driven and self-starting.
* Strong organisation-related skills
* Ability to influence and persuade other stakeholders at varying levels.
* Commitment to safeguarding, health and safety, equality, and diversity
* Flexibility to work in a fast-paced environment and willingness to travel within the work area.
* Awareness & experience of working to safeguarding protocols.
* Willing to undertake mandatory safeguarding training.
* Experience in planning, leading, and facilitating group sessions and 1-to-1 activities.
· Minimum of 2 years (FTE) experience of working with children and young people (preferably within the context of support, teaching, youth work, childcare).
· Good knowledge of ethical, legal and professional issues in working with children and young people.

* Experience of providing business start-up advice and/or making funding recommendations/decisions
* Excellent interpersonal skills, and an ability to provide applicants with support and guidance in a calm and encouraging manner, taking into consideration the unique issues which customers may be dealing with.
* Experience with CRM system Salesforce.
