Primary Engineer
Location: Birmingham, UK – hybrid, primarily home-based with occasional meetings at the Birmingham office
Duration: 6‑month contract – may be extended
Job Description
* Principle Designer – Minimum qualification of HNC/HND in a related engineering field and 8 years of applicable experience (or 12 years in lieu of HNC/HND).
* Senior Designer – Minimum qualification of HNC/HND in a related engineering field and 5 years of applicable experience (or 9 years in lieu of HNC/HND).
* Knowledge of transmission or distribution practices (400 kV to 11 kV).
Responsibilities
* Provide technical expertise in the design and installation of substation layouts for 400 kV to 11 kV substation projects.
* Create substation layout and associated detail diagrams in accordance with established UK standards and processes through allocated CAD resources locally and in other business units.
* Develop technical specifications and material schedules for primary equipment.
* Prepare conductor force calculations.
* Check and approve project documentation in accordance with established standards.
* Ensure own work packages and delegated work packages are delivered to project programme, scope and aligned to allocated budget. Provide comments where required on delegated works.
* Provide technical support and develop tender scheme options and related project scope documents.
* Produce engineering time estimates and support monthly forecasts to completion.
* Record input into design and hazard review meetings.
* Provide technical support at site when required.
