JOB TITLE: Housing Income OfficerREF: Rugby RQ1575383Pay rate: £18.82 per hour PAYEContract Type: Temporary, Anticipated 3 monthsWorking Arrangement: Hybrid working, with 3 days on siteDriving licence and access to own carBasic DBS is required for this roleThe role:On behalf of a local council, we are seeking a Temporary Income Officer required for the collection and management of rent collection.Key Responsibilities:
* Provide an income management service for all tenants of the Council’s General Needs and Independent Living properties.
* Provide advice, assistance and information to tenants and the general public by way of office interviews, home visits, telephone calls, written correspondence and e-mail
* Liaise with team to ensure appropriate guidance and information is provided in the delivery of housing services and to identify and resolve any complaints or problems.
* Support new tenants to develop a culture of rent first, making rent payments a priority and work with all tenants to help reduce rent arrears through early intervention, effective communication, developing affordable payment plans and assisting with income maximisation.
* Work with teams to ensure where possible tenancies are sustained through a multi-agency approach and individual support packages.
* Advise tenants on appropriate payment methods such as standing orders, direct debits, online payments, etc. In particularly encourage the take up of Direct Debit Mandates
What the client is looking for:
* Proven experience in managing rental income, arrears collection, and setting up payment arrangements to maximise collection rates.
* Excellent understanding of social housing legislation, tenancy agreements, welfare benefits, and debt recovery processes.
* Ability to communicate effectively and empathetically with tenants via home visits, office interviews, telephone, email, and written correspondence.
* Experience providing advice and guidance on financial management, welfare benefits, and income maximisation to support tenants in meeting rent obligations.
* Skilled in collaborating with internal departments, external agencies, and support services to sustain tenancies and deliver effective individual support packages.
* Ability to liaise with senior housing staff and resolve tenant issues promptly and professionally while maintaining a focus on customer care.
* Experience supporting new tenants to prioritise rent payments and reinforcing a culture of financial responsibility across tenancies.
* Familiarity with various payment methods (standing orders, direct debits, online payments) with the ability to encourage and promote secure, reliable options such as Direct Debit Mandates.
